James 1:17 says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."
All that we have is from our Father in Heaven. All of the beautiful and good things we see throughout our days are truly, a gift. In this verse, there are two kinds of gifts: good ones, and perfect ones. The good ones are the things in your life that it makes sense to be thankful for. Your job, your home, your family, friends, education, freedom, etc. The perfect gifts, are the ones that we have been given that not everyone recognizes so easily: abounding grace, mercy, unconditional love, righteousness, unexplainable peace, salvation, relationship with our Father in heaven.
Use this lock screen to be thankful. Be thankful for the good gifts, the blessings on earth. Be thankful for the perfect gifts, the ones that are not seen but give you deep assurance that you are known, loved, held, and saved. All that we have is truly from our perfect Father in heaven. This month, and every month, be thankful. As you say “this year I’m thankful for…” around the dinner table, let this verse ring out in your mind. “Every good and perfect gift is from above”. Thank you Jesus.
