Through a systematic and reflective reading of John, you will grow in your understanding and love of Jesus and the Scriptures. Over the span of 10 weeks, you will be reminded that the things you’re longing for are already yours as a child of God: belonging, security, provision, communion, purpose, and identity are yours in full. God built that home for you in himself, all we must do is walk through the door.

Love the contemplative prayer!

Katie Noble is an excellent writer who knows how to communicate her ideas clearly. She offers sound and creative interpretations of biblical texts which will encourage readers. She also introduces historic, tested, and trustworthy spiritual practices that the Church has always done, like Lectio Divina. Sometimes ancient disciplines like this can get lost in our spiritual upbringing, or even ostracized when we're unfamiliar with them. But Katie walks readers through how to engage Lectio Divina well and connect with Jesus and Scripture in helpful ways.

Perfectly Simple. Perfectly Deep.

I think this devotional meets you right where you are at. There is the freedom to take as much time as you need to work through the devotional because the author wants you to go slow so you can notice the patterns/specific work choices of the scriptures! I also love the focus on praying alongside studying the Word. I have been a Christian my whole life and this devotional has helped me understand the familiar stories within the book of John in a deeper and more meaningful way.

Encouraging & Refreshing!

I am so thankful for this study! I had wanted to go through John & was so excited to see that Katie Noble was releasing one. As I have worked through it, I have been so encouraged by the depth, reflection, and space for contemplative prayer (which I find to be SO helpful and Biblical). Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to find their home in our good God!

Hi Madeline! Thank you so much for your kind words--thankful the Lord is using this in your life!

contemplative prayer

In the first part of this book it has a suggestion to do lecto devina, which is a contemplative prayer style practice, and something that is wholly unbiblical. I haven't gotten past that part, and am giving two stars because it suggests doing this, but leaves room for people not to do it. I am also giving those stars because I feel it is too harsh, but want a potential buyer to be aware. I was planning to use this as a group study, so am greatly disappointed, however I could still use the copy I own for personal study and "chew the meat but spit out the bones", type, casting off areas where this practice is applied elsewhere. It is a great topic and I am sad to pass on it for a group, but can't continue with it.

Hi Amanda,

We are so grateful for your honest review! We were disheartened to hear that Katie’s recommendation to practice Lectio Divina bothered you. While we understand everyone has preferences, reliable church fathers developed this spiritual discipline starting in the third century, and faithful Christians have been practicing it ever since. We don’t believe there’s anything unbiblical about closely reading a Scripture passage, intentionally focusing on details, praying, and then pondering how God might speak through it to us today.

Truly, this is all Lectio Divina is—we want to encourage you that if Lectio Divina still concerns you, it’s a very minor part of 'God Our Home', so it shouldn’t distract from the other good things Katie has to offer.
