A prayer for when your heart aches for Heaven
Father,
This world feels heavy, and my heart is homesick. Lift my eyes to the hills, for when I look up, I see where my help comes from, for my help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.
Jesus, you are the founder of my faith and the author of my salvation. Turn my longing into hope and my tears into anticipation for the day I see you face to face and find my eternal home with you. Come quickly.
In Jesus’s name, amen.
Jordan’s Story
I never anticipated that my journey would be profoundly influenced by grief. Yet, there I was, driving home after conducting my own father's funeral at my home church, suddenly grappling with questions I had spent years helping others navigate. Until my dad died of cancer, I hadn’t thought much about heaven. I believed in eternal life, preached hope, and quoted John 3:16, yet I often felt unsure how to offer real comfort. Behind the pulpit, I proclaimed hope; inside, I wasn’t always certain what that hope actually meant.
That loss forced me to search the Scriptures with new urgency. I had grown up in church, familiar with end-times debates, but I realized how little I understood about life after death: about what eternity with God actually looks like. Was heaven the end of all the things I love or the beginning of something better? Those questions launched me on a journey to discover what the Bible really says about the world to come, and to learn how to grieve with hope, not without it.
